How to Apply your Skincare - A Step-by-Step Guide to Glowing Skin
One question we get asked over and over again is which order our products are meant to be used in. Well, we’re here to answer all of your questions about how to layer our products so you get the most benefits for your skin. Follow this easy guide to elevate your ritual and get radiant, glowing results!
It’s worth mentioning that your skincare ritual doesn’t need to stay the same all the time. Your skin, like the rest of your body, has needs that change and evolve depending on a variety of factors (season, diet, hydration, travel…the list goes on). While this guide will help you get a basic idea of what your ritual will look like, we encourage you to tune into what’s going on with your skin and adjust accordingly.
With that in mind, here is our guide to your glowing skin ritual:
1. Cleanse
You always want to start your routine with a clean slate and that means a Nourishing Cleanser is the first step to an effective ritual. Cleansing first ensures that your skin is free of any dirt or pollution that can accumulate at the surface and potentially contribute to breakouts, dehydration and aging. Even if you don’t wear make-up, environmental toxins and stressors (like dirt and sweat particles) can accumulate on the skin’s surface and lead to blockages. Proper cleansing of the skin clears these away and allows your naturally occurring sebum oil to reach the skin surface unimpeded; decreasing the chances of breakouts.
So to begin, put a small amount of cleanser on your fingertips and apply to a damp face in small, circular motions. Our products do not contain any fillers so a little goes a long way! You’ll only need a dime sized drop.
2. Exfoliate/Polish
Using an Exfoliating Polish is an important part of your ritual. It has many benefits including unclogging pores, preventing acne, evening skin tone, increasing cell turnover and stimulating collagen growth. Properly exfoliated skin also allows for deeper penetration of other skincare products like serums and moisturizers. We recommend you exfoliate 2 to 3 times per week.
Apply our exfoliating polish to your clean skin, making sure to work it into all areas of your face but avoiding your mouth and eyes and then rinse.
3. Mask
Face Masks are the best way to address specific skincare concerns and the right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove impurities, and reduce the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles. They’re also a great way to treat yourself to some self-care from the comfort of your own home. While you can certainly use a face mask every day, we typically do them 3-4 times per week. Apply your mask to a clean and exfoliated face and leave for 5-15 minutes.
If you’re anything like us, the morning can be hectic, so feel free to do this step as part of your evening routine or when you have time for a leisurely bath!
4. Serums
Everything you’ve done up to this point has been preparing your skin for what is possibly the most important element of any skincare ritual - Serums. These lightweight moisturizers are made up of smaller molecules than other products so their beneficial active ingredients can penetrate deeper into your skin. Using a serum regularly can give your skin a firmer, smoother texture, make pores appear smaller, brightens the skin, and increases moisture.
Apply one or two drops of our serums to your skin, making sure to address specific areas like around the eyes, corners of the mouth and anywhere you have a skin issue you’d like to target. Always allow one serum to dry completely before you apply another. (In the case of our serums, it is important to apply the Brightening Serum before the Firming Serum because the molecules in the Brightening Serum are smaller and need to go on first).
This is the point at which you can also apply eye creams, like our Revitalizing Eye Repair, and facial oils, like our Luminous Oil.
5. Moisturize
Moisturizers are paramount to maintaining healthy, glowing skin. Whether your skin tends to be dry or oily, moisturizing is a key factor in maintaining a healthy balance. Using the right moisturizer reduces your chance of challenges like blemishes or oiliness. An interesting fact is that oily skin is often the result of the skin being overly dry and over-producing oil to compensate. Properly moisturized skin also appears more youthful because moisture reduces the appearance of pores, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Apply a small amount of moisturizer to the face with your fingertips and don’t forget your neck and décolletage!
6. Mist
A refreshing Facial Mist is a fun, easy way to perk up tired-looking skin, prepare your skin for makeup application, or provide an additional boost of hydration. We love to keep ours in the car or our purses for a little refresh whenever one is needed.
Spritz a bit on your face to cap off your routine and go about the rest of your day knowing you did yourself and your skin a favor by starting your day with a healthy skincare ritual.
I hope you found this helpful and I’d like to reiterate that this is only a rough guideline. You don’t have to include all of these steps in your routine and you can add in your favorite products from other lines too. Skincare is very personal and nothing is steadfast or concrete.
Our skin is always changing and evaluating what is best for you in the moment is always the best way to go.
